Centerville, population about 16,679 (Census ACS 2020–2024), passed Ordinance 2026-05 on April 7, 2026. Section 12.51.065 bars lawn and turf in park strips and in any area under 8 feet wide, and caps lawn and turf at 35% of the front and side yard landscaped area of single-family lots. It applies to applications submitted on or after May 1, 2026, and existing non-conforming lawn can generally stay (Ordinance 2026-05). The ordinance does not define "turf" as living grass in the text we read, so we could not confirm whether synthetic turf counts. Ask the planning office.
The ordinance does address artificial landscaping, but only "artificial plants and landscaping, such as artificial or man-made shrubs, trees or other similar vegetation." That falls under section 12.51.082, and the ordinance says it cannot be used to meet minimum landscaping requirements. We could not find a published Centerville rule that names synthetic lawn. Next door, Bountiful and Farmington have older lawn caps.
Park Strips Under The Companion Ordinance
Ordinance 2026-06 rewrote the park-strip rule in the municipal code (11.02.020). It bars lawn or turf in park strips, and limits hardscape to a short list: decorative rock about 1.5 to 6 inches in diameter and loosely laid bricks, pavers or flagstones. Other materials are prohibited in park strips (Ordinance 2026-06). Artificial turf is not on that list, so plan a park strip without it unless the city tells you otherwise in writing.
Wind On The Centerville Bench
On December 1, 2011, a windstorm hit Davis County with gusts of 102 miles per hour in Centerville, where the mayor declared a local emergency. Cleanup in Centerville alone was estimated at $8 million (2011 Davis County windstorm). Turf is heavy and anchored, but the edges and seams are what wind finds. Ask the installer how edges are nailed or bonded, and keep loose infill and lightweight furniture in mind.
Water And Rebates
A November 2025 city plan records watering only between 6 PM and 10 AM, nine city well sites and secondary irrigation drawn from Ricks, Barnard, Parrish and Deuel Creeks (Centerville Water Element, Ord. 2025-15). Centerville is on Weber Basin's $2.50 per square foot Landscape Lawn Exchange list, but the program does not pay where lawn is replaced with artificial turf, concrete or other hard surfaces (Weber Basin, Oct 2026).

Turf Questions From Centerville Homeowners
Does Centerville allow artificial turf in front yards?
We could not find a published Centerville rule that names synthetic lawn. The April 2026 ordinance bars lawn and turf in park strips and caps them at 35% of single-family front and side yards, so ask the planning office whether synthetic turf counts.
Can I put artificial turf in a Centerville park strip?
The park-strip ordinance lists allowed hardscape as decorative rock and loosely laid bricks, pavers or flagstones, and prohibits other materials. Artificial turf is not listed, so confirm with the city before planning one.
What watering hours does Centerville use?
The city's November 2025 water plan records outdoor watering between 6 PM and 10 AM only.
