Most turf calculators online ask for your phone number before they show a price. This one does not ask for anything. It uses the same published ranges as our Utah turf cost guide, with every figure's source linked below, and shows the arithmetic so you can check it.
Treat the result as orientation, not a quote. Base work, access, slope and the turf product move a real bid, and small jobs often price above the per-foot range because setup and haul-off are fixed costs. A measured, written estimate is the number that counts.
The Calculator
How the Calculator Works
Turf for a lawn, play area or dog run uses HomeAdvisor's June 2026 ranges for turf material ($2 to $8 per square foot) plus installation labor ($4 to $9), added together. That is the same method as the size table on our cost guide. Pet turf follows lawn pricing, as our pet turf page explains, with pet-specific upgrades priced on top.
Putting greens use HomeAdvisor's per-square-foot ranges by green size, from our putting green page: a small green costs more per foot because shaping and setup are fixed.
Removing a lawn adds Lawn Love's December 2025 range for removing existing grass. Water is the lawn irrigation you no longer apply: Kentucky bluegrass needs 24 to 30 inches of water over Utah's five-month watering season, a Salt Lake City Public Utilities figure cited by Utah State University Extension. One inch of water on one square foot is 0.623 gallons, so a lawn uses roughly 15 to 19 gallons per square foot per season. Results are rounded to the nearest $10 and 100 gallons.
| Use | Size band | Installed, per sq ft |
|---|---|---|
| Lawn or play area | Any size | $6 – $17 |
| Pet turf or dog run | Any size | $6 – $17 |
| Putting green | Under 400 sq ft | $25 – $40 |
| Putting green | 400 – 2,000 sq ft | $20 – $30 |
| Putting green | Over 2,000 sq ft | $15 – $25 |
| Remove a grass lawn | Any size | + $0.88 – $1.84 |
| Lawn water no longer applied | Per sq ft, per season | 15.0 – 18.7 gallons |

What the Water Number Means, and What It Does Not
The gallons are the lawn's sprinkler water, which turf removes. Turf is not zero water: pet areas get rinsed, and the trees and beds around it still need irrigation. Whether the saving shows up on your bill depends on your water rate and on whether your outdoor water is metered. Many Davis and Utah County homes use pressurized secondary water, which state law requires to be metered by 2030. We do not convert gallons to dollars because rates differ by city; your city page has its water notes.
Will a Rebate Pay for It?
Generally no. Utah Water Savers pays up to $3 per square foot to remove lawn, but only when the replacement is mostly living, water-wise planting on drip, and its FAQ says artificial turf is not eligible. Weber Basin and Central Utah Water's programs also exclude turf. So the calculator does not subtract a rebate. The Utah turf rebate guide covers each program and the hybrid yard that mixes turf with a planted, rebate-eligible area.
Before You Order, Check Your City
Several Wasatch Front cities limit where turf can go, and some set minimum product specs. Pick your city in the calculator for a link to its rules and water notes.

Turf Calculator Questions
How accurate is the turf cost calculator?
It is as accurate as the published ranges behind it, which are national and wide. Real bids land in or outside the band depending on base work, access, slope and product. Use it to set a budget and to sanity-check bids, not as a price.
Why does the calculator show water saved but not money saved?
Water rates and metering differ by city and by whether your outdoor water is culinary or secondary. The gallons are the lawn's irrigation need; multiply by your own rate for a dollar figure.
Does the calculator include a rebate?
No, because the main Wasatch Front lawn-removal programs do not pay for artificial turf. See the rebate guide.
