Artificial Turf in Midway, UT

Midway has its own irrigation company, geothermal tufa ground and long winters at about 5,600 feet. A vetted local turf installer we refer can walk your yard and quote it.

Midway has about 6,171 residents (Census ACS 2020–2024). We could not find a published Midway rule that names artificial or synthetic turf. The city's land use code, as mirrored by Zoneomics, talks about land being planted to lawn, trees or shrubs in some zones and lets staff accept xeriscape in place of traditional landscaping (Midway Title 16, Zoneomics mirror). That mirror may lag the official code, and subdivision or HOA design review can add its own limits, so ask Midway planning and your HOA before you order anything.

Midway culinary water comes from the city, and secondary irrigation water comes from Midway Irrigation Company, which is separate from the city (Midway City). Supply has been tight in dry years: in 2021 the city cut residential lawn watering to once a week (KPCW, 2021). Check the company's current schedule. Next door, Heber City runs on a different system.

Rebates For Midway Yards

Midway appears on the Utah Water Savers eligibility page (observed October 2026), though an older state list did not include it, so confirm before you apply. Either way, the program pays $3 per square foot only to replace living lawn and says artificial turf will not be incentivized (program details). Our rebate guide explains how to keep a rebate area and a turf area separate.

Ground Near The Hot Pots

Midway is known for its geothermal hot pots, mounds of tufa, a calcium carbonate rock, with the largest, Homestead Crater, rising 55 feet (Utah Geological Survey). Tufa near those springs is a reason to dig a test hole before bidding on a base. Hard carbonate rock can change excavation time and cost, and we have no soil map that says how far it extends. Ask the installer how they will handle rock in the dig.

Cold-Season Turf In Midway

City center is about 5,594 feet and sits in USDA zone 6a. Wasatch County's design criteria list a 36 inch frost line depth (Wasatch County). Turf stays green under melting snow and does not go dormant brown, which matters most for front yards seen all winter. A well-drained base matters more than anything else here.

Turf Questions From Midway Homeowners

Does Midway allow artificial turf in front yards?

We could not find a published Midway rule that names artificial turf. Ask Midway planning and your HOA, and get the answer in writing before installing.

Who supplies irrigation water in Midway, and does turf change my bill?

Midway Irrigation Company supplies secondary water, and the city supplies culinary water. Turf needs no irrigation, but ask the company how replacing lawn affects any assessment tied to your lot.

Can I get a rebate for artificial turf in Midway?

No. The Utah Water Savers program pays only to replace living lawn and does not incentivize artificial turf.

Is the rocky ground near the hot pots a problem for turf?

It can be. Tufa is hard rock, so excavation and base prep may take longer on some lots. A site visit is how an installer will tell.
